    Frederick Newbery: miller of Milton Ernest. He kept a number of ducks. In the evening of the 4th June, he counted them and found one duck missing. Arthur Neal: groom to Mr. Newbery of Milton. His master keeps a quantity of ducks. On the 3rd June there was one duck missing. William Harry Woodward: a boy of 13 years living in Bedford. On the 3rd June he was with his brother John were in the Crescent in Bedford at about 12pm. The prisoner came in and asked him if they would go for a drive with him. The prisoner told them to go to his stables in about half an hour. He went with his brother to the stables and the prisoner drove them in his van to Clapham. When they got to the bottom of the hill opposite Mr. Newbery’s mill, the prisoner said to him to look at the ducks in the ditch by the side of the road, and the prisoner got out of the van. The prisoner caught one of the ducks and put it in a sack and tied it up. The prisoner put the sack in his van and said, “That is the first one”. Joseph Hebbes: police constable of Pavenham. On 3rd June at about 10pm he was on duty at Milton Ernest. He received information and went to Mr. Andrews Farm at Milton Ernest. About 40 yards from the farm he saw the prisoner coming from it in a van. He stopped the prisoner and found in his van some fowls. The prisoner said that he had bought the fowls along with a goose and gosling from a man some 3-4 miles beyond Felmersham. He brought the prisoner to Sharnbrook. He found a duck in the van which he showed to Mr. Newbery who identified it as his property. Henry Price: greengrocer of Bedford. “I am not Guilty”
