    Frederick Evans, cashier of Luton in the employment of Mr. Hucklesby. On the evening of 5th April he left Mr. Hucklesby’s warehouse. At 9pm he put the key in his pocket and locked the door, leaving the sum of 1 shilling in bronze coin in the locked drawer. When he returned to the warehouse the following morning he found the drawer had been forced open. William Chamberlain: detective sergeant of Luton. On 6th April he was watching inside Mr. Huckleby’s warehouse in Bond Street. About 7am he saw the prisoner open the warehouse door with a key and go straight towards the counting house and the cash drawer. He saw the prisoner take a chisel from his pocket and force open the drawer. He saw the prisoner put his arm inside the drawer. As the prisoner was leaving he stopped and arrested the prisoner. He found keys in the prisoner’s pockets. He asked the prisoner if he could account for having so many keys. The prisoner said that a small key belonged to the desk where he worked. He asked the prisoner if he had any money and the prisoner replied, ‘No’. He then took the prisoner to the police office. Bertie Horwood: I am not Guilty
