    This Indenture witnesseth that William Wilshire son of Thomas Wilshere of Ridgmont in the County of Bedford, labourer (a poor child belonging to and having a settlement in the Parish of Ridgmont aforesaid)with the consent of his said father and of Abraham Wing Crouch and Richard Checkley Churchwardens of the parish of Ridgmont aforesaid doth put himself apprentice to Thomas Mallery of Toddington in the same County, cordwainer to learn his art and with him after the manner of an apprentice to serve him from the day of the date hereof for the term of seven years or until the said apprentice shall attain the age of twenty one years during which term the said apprentice his said Master faithfully shall serve in all lawful businesses according to his power skill and ability and behave himself towards his said Master honestly orderly and obediently in all things. And the said Thomas Mallery in consideration of the sum of six pounds sterling be paid to him by the said Churchwardens in manner following (that is to say) the sum of three pounds on the execution of these presents and the remaining sum of three pounds on the twenty fourth day of June which will be in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty five the receipt of which said first mentioned sum of three pounds is hereby acknowledged (which said sum of six pounds is part and parcel of certain charity monies or interest arising therefrom left by the will of Arthur Whitchelsea for the putting out annually poor children of the parish of Ridgmont and other villages therein mentioned apprentices) and of the said Wiliam Wilshire to be done and performed for him he the said Thomas Mallery doth hereby accept and take the said William Wilshire as his apprentice and shall and will teach and instruct his said apprentice in the art or calling of a cordwainer which he useth by the best means that he can during the said term of seven years or until the said William Wilshire shall attain the age of twenty one years and doth hereby agree to find and provide for his said apprentice sufficient and proper board lodging clothes washing medicine and all other necessaries during the said term. And lastly for the true performance of all several agreements hereinbefore contained either of the said parties Master and Apprentice bindeth himself unto the other by these presents. In Witness whereof the said parties to these presents have hereunto set their hand and seals the twenty fourth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty one.
