- Scope and ContentThis Indenture witnesseth that William Brightman son of Solomon Brightman of Ampthill in the County of Bedford, labourer and Ursula his late wife, a poor child belonging to and having a settlement in the Parish of Ridgmont aforesaid by and with the consent of his said father and also of Ambrose Platt and Joseph Norris Churchwardens of the parish of Ridgmont aforesaid (testified by their severally being a Party to and sealing and delivering these presents) doth put himself apprentice to John Eayrs of Ampthill aforesaid, tailor to learn his and with him after the manner of an apprentice to serve him from the first day of December last past unto the full end and term of seven years from thence next ensuing to be fully to be complete and ended during which term the said apprentice his said Master faithfully shall serve in all lawful businesses according to his power wit and ability and honestly orderly and obediently in all things demean and behave himself towards his said Master and all his during the said term. And the said John Eayrs in consideration of the sum of ten pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid to him by the said Ambrose Platt and Joseph Norris Churchwardens of the parish of Ridgmont at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged (which said sum of ten pounds is part and parcel of certain charity monies or interest arising therefrom left by the will of Arthur Whitchelsea for the putting out annually poor children of the parish of Ridgmont and other villages therein mentioned apprentices) the said John Eayrs his said apprentice in the art or calling of a tailor which he useth by the best means that he can shall and will teach and instruct or cause to be taught or instructed finding unto the said apprentice good and sufficient meat drink and lodging during the space of six weeks from the day of the date whereof and also during the like space of six weeks previous to the expiration of the said Apprenticeship and also shall and will provide for the said Apprentice during all the said term the making and mending of his coats, waistcoats and breeches. And the said Solomon Brightman doth hereby agree to find and provide for his said son good and sufficient meat drink and lodging during the intervening period of the said term and also shall and will find for his said son during all the said term sufficient and proper clothes, washing and all other necessaries (except the making and mending of his coats, waistcoats and breeches which the said John Eayrs is to provide as aforesaid) And for the true performance of all the covenants and agreements aforesaid the said William Brightman and the said Solomon Brightman and the said John Eayrs bindeth himself unto the other and each of them unto the said Ambrose Platt and Joseph Norris and their successors by these presents. In Witness whereof the said parties to these presents have hereunto set their hand and seals this twenty seventh day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty four.
