- Scope and ContentMartha Knight: she left the house about 12.30pm. There was nobody left in the house. She left 4 calico shorts hanging on a line in the yard by the side of the house. A flannel shirt and a handkerchief were lying on a basket under the line. She returned about 3pm and missed the shirts and handkerchief. PC George Mardlin: he apprehended the prisoner about a mile from the house of Martha Knight. He told the prisoner the charge and at first the prisoner said he did not steal the shirts but afterwards said he did and had done it from want.
