Thomas Housden of Sandy - he is gamekeeper to Lady Payne of Sandy. On 8 May he set 2 1/2 dozen snares in a field called Long Field. About 7am next morning he went round and saw the snares still where he set them. He told his helper Jesse Dilley he had set them and told him to give an eye to them. The snares now produced by Dilley are 3 of those he set in Long Field. Jesse Dilley of Sandy - about 11.30 on Tuesday morning 9 May he saw Apthorpe looking at some of the snares he was watching by Houseden’s direction in Long Field. After he had taken up a few Apthorpe went out of the field into the road. Apthorpe then saw him and put the snares under his waistcoat. He went up to Apthorpe and asked him for the snares. Apthorpe said “what snares?”. He pulled Apthorpe’s waistcoat open and took them away from him. Zachariah Apthorpe - “yes your honour I know I stole them”.
