- Scope and ContentWilliam Peppercorn Squire: a farmer and one of the surveyors of the highways in the parish of Silsoe. He stated the correct notices were affixed to the church and by the side of each end of the road. He also authorised the insertion of the notice in the Bedfordshire Times and the Bedfordshire Independent for 4 successive weeks. All notices were signed by himself and Mr Charles Brightman. Francis Joyce: a surveyor living in Silsoe. He confirmed that the correct notices were posted and remained in position for the correct period of time, having checked them daily with the exception of 26th to 29th October. He also produced a plan which had the consent of the late Earl de Grey, the Earl having died on 14 November 1859. He states the old road was of irregular width with abrupt projections. The proposed road was to be level and of regular width. He considered the new road to be safer and more commodious to the public. George Haddow: a clerk in the office of Mr Henry Trethewy of Silsoe. He had several times seen the notices signed by Mr Squire and Mr Brightman which were affixed to the end of the highway proposed to be diverted. In the absence of Francis Joyce he attended the notices daily and found them to be affixed.
