- Scope and ContentFrederick Purser: he lived in Harrowden in the parish of Cardington. He had 2 rabbits in a barn adjoining his house. They were in the barn on the night of 1 January. He missed them when he went to feed them the next morning. His rabbits, and 1 belonging to another person, were in the same hutch in the barn. He went with James Bowler to the prisoner’s lodgings and spoke to the prisoner. From information received he went to a cow hovel in the occupation of Isaac Mann. Under some straw he found his rabbits. He called for James Bowler and they watched until they saw the prisoner come in about 7pm and take one of the rabbits away. He told the prisoner to stop and Bowler took the rabbit from the prisoner’s pocket. He told the prisoner to fetch the other one but Holloman said he did not know where it was. The prisoner fetched the rabbit. He handed the rabbits to PC Fowler. The barn had been locked on the night the rabbits were taken and was still locked the next morning. James Bowler: he had heard the evidence of the last witness. He had accompanied him as stated. PC John Fowler: he received the prisoner into custody and told him the charge.
