- Scope and ContentJoshua Garner of Southill, labourer - yesterday afternoon (20 July) he was field keeping for Mr Frederick Lindsell in a field in Southill. He had a gun with him which belonged to Mr Lindsell. About 4pm he sat down, put the gun by his side and went to sleep. When he woke the gun was gone. He told Job Wells he had lost the gun. The gun produced is the one he lost. Job Wells of Southill, labourer - from what Garner told him he went along the path leading from Broom to Biggleswade and saw a man very like Burrows. The moment the man saw him he began to run. He ran after him and saw him drop something. He lost sight of the man, then found him in a ditch and gave him into custody of Mr Neal. He went to see what had been dropped and found the gun stock now produced. He also found the barrel of a gun which he believes belongs to the stock. Charles Yeo of Biggleswade, police constable - when Burrows was given into his custody by Mr Neal he was also given the barrel, the stock and the screws. He put them together and they fitted exactly. James Smith of Biggleswade, police constable - he heard a gun had been stolen at Southill and went with Yeo and the boy who gave him the information and found Burrows in Mr Neal’s custody. He searched Burrows and found the screws now produced. While Mr Neal was searching him for the screw he saw Mr Neal pick it up off the ground close behind Burrows. He saw Yeo fit the screw, stock and barrel together. John Burrows - “I was never nigh the place and know nothing at all about the gun”.
