- Scope and ContentThe Visiting Justices have regularly visited and inspected the prison during the Quarter ending 29th September last. The Visiting Justices have provisionally appointed Elizabeth Witty and Elizabeth Higginbottom to be warders on the female side of the prison. The average number of prisoners during the years ending respectively 29th September 1876 and 29th September 1877 were 117 and 125; the average number of military prisoners in confinement here in the year just ended leass than in the previous year but there has been an increase in the number of prisoners from the County of Bedford. The gross cost of the maintenance of the prisoners was £3894.14.7 3/4 and the average weekly cost of each prisoner 12s 1d.
