- Scope and ContentVisiting Justices present a code of rules in respect of matters relating to the government of the prison which they recommend for adoption by the Court. Works at the cooking house are completed. Pumps for the main supply of water to the prison are out of order. Mr Haydon to make report for works needed to repair. In the estimate for the new works for the Infirmary and cooking house the expense of gas lights was omitted; the Visiting Justices request authority to order them. In February damage was done in the prison and in the houses of the Governor and Chief Warder by an overflow of water from one of the recently constructed sewers. The Visiting Justices having satisfied themselves by enquiry that the overflow was attributable to the negligence of Mr Moore the contractor. Mr Moore disputes his liability and refuses to pay [£8.15.1].
