- Scope and ContentThomas Birt, master of the Biggleswade Union Workhouse – Ann Britton had been an inmate of the workhouse for 5 days ending on 21 February. Yesterday afternoon PC Shaw brought in the petticoat now produced which belongs to the Guardians of the workhouse. Britton had one given to her to wear while she was in the workhouse. John Shaw – he is stationed at Potton. Yesterday he was told that Ann Britton had got on a petticoat belonging to the Union. He found her, took her into his house, and his wife took it off her. He now produces it. When he charged her with stealing it she made no reply. Ann Britton – there was another girl with her when she took it. They took it out of the wash house. It was not the one she wore while she was in the house.
