  • Scope and Content
    George Peter Livius, Charles Gillies Payne, William Shove Chalk. The Magistrates visiting the prisoners were informed by one of them (John Welton) that he had been employed in the Governors Garden. On the question being asked the Turney he said that the prisoner had been employed four mornings during the last 10 days by the order of the Governor. The Visiting Justices enquired what other prisoners had been employed in the Governors garden. The Turnkey stated that Robert Farr, Francis Horton, William Ayres had been employed for an hour in the morning watering the flowers round the borders. The Turnkey assays he was with them the whole time...he knew that it was against the prison rules. John Welton, prisoner, being called in states that a prisoner of the name of Blake wernt out with hm three times and also another prisoner of the name of Turner and another prisoner who was discharegd at the last Quarter Sessions names Richard Gell.
