To poor of Dunstable (his birth place) - 70 marks ... to poor of Leighton Buzzard - £10 to be divided among them at trustees' discretion within 3 months after his decease ... to Mr Daniel Marshe, 'my kinsman' -small piece of ground near west end of Dunstable on which he has built a barn or stable ... to Blandina Marshe and Mary Marshe, my daughters - property in Hockliffe, Egington, 'Clopston' and Stanbridge equally to be divided between them ... to John Marshe, my only son (upon whom I have formerly settled a plentiful estate upon his marriage) - close of 6 acres in North field of Dunstable (formerly purchased of John Temple, gentleman) and now in occupance Robert Wintour ... to poor of Dunstable - 30s per annum for ever to be paid out of said 6 acres, in December, as said three children, or major number of them, shall think requisite and after their deaths by the Minister, Churchwardens and Overseers of Dunstable. Said charity is to be entered in one of the public town books of Dunstable 'the better to perpetuate the memory thereof'. ... also to said son, John - 8 acres in common fields of Dunstable and Houghton Regis, Bedfordshire, and Kensworth, Hertfordshire, now in occupance Thomas Greene -cottage in Aspley Guise, and 2 acres land, held by virtue of a demise for a long term of years and unexpired, from one Charles Coleman, deceased - £500 within 6 months after my decease ... to daughters, Blandina and Mary, and longer liver of them -messuage wherein Mr Daniel Marshe, my kinsman, does now dwell in north end of Dunstable, next to the Red Lion Inn, abutting on Watling Street. If daughters dwell in said house, then they shall permit said Daniel Marshe and kinsman William Chew to dwell in the house 'for a very considerable convenient time after my decease' without paying rent after daughters' decease then to heirs male of Blandina, and then female heirs, and then similarly for heirs of Mary and heirs male of John and then to heirs of William Chew, Daniel Marshe, and John Marshe, brother of said Daniel, and kinswomen Elizabeth Aynscombe, Frances Ashton and Jane Carte, the three daughters of deceased sister, Elizabeth Chew, equally to be divided between them ... to said Elizabeth Aynscombe -£10 ... to William Chew, Daniel Marshe and John Marshe, his brother, and Jane Marshe, his sister, and to Elizabeth Aynscombe, Frances Clifton and Jane Carte - 20 s apiece to buy rings to wear in my remembrance ... to said Blandina and Mary, my daughters, equally to be divided between them - 2 best bedsteads, 2 best feather beds, 2 best feather bolsters, 4 best feather pillows, 2 best woollen ruggs, 4 best woollen blankets, all my curtains and valences belonging to my said beds and all my Turkey work chairs and Turkey work couch and 2 wainscot chests of drawers with 2 oaken chests ... to said 3 children -linen, plate of silver, gold rings, equally to be divided between them ... to said son, John - all law books, paper, precedents, fire wood and timber ... to said 3 children - all other books ... to said son John - all other household goods in dwelling house of said son, in Leighton Buzzard all money owing on mortgages shall be taken as assets in hands of executrixes and heir at law not to interrupt their enjoyment of same ... to said 2 daughters, Blandina and Mary -residue of goods (after debts paid 'which are not great or many'), legacies etc said daughters also appointed executrixes will dated 5 September 1699 Probate (PCC) 9 July 1700
