- Scope and ContentHenry Clark: keeper of the White Swan at Southill. On the evening of 11 June the prisoner came to his house with her husband and her husband’s uncle. The uncle ordered half a quartern of rum which was given to the prisoner. As soon as she had gone they missed the glass. He followed her and charged her with taking it. She denied it. He felt her pocket and felt a glass. He made her give it up and then she acknowledged having taken it. He called PC Pepper and gave her into his custody. He had lost so many things from the house in that way that he thought he best put a stop to it. PC Reuben Pepper: the prisoner was given into his charge by Mr Clark. The glass was worth about 7 pence. Statement of the accused: nothing to say except she was sorry.
