    Sarah Armstrong, wife of Joseph Armstrong of Goldington, labourer – yesterday afternoon (April 6) about 2pm she hung out a shirt of her husband’s to dry on the garden hedge near her house. Less than ½ hour later she missed the shirt. From information received she went in the direction of Renhold and overtook Gover. She saw the shirt taken from him by Mr Young. She gave the shirt to PC Beach. Betsey Gaunt, wife of Joseph Gaunt of Goldington, labourer – she saw Gover take a shirt off the garden hedge and put it into his breeches. She later followed him with Sarah Armstrong and saw the shirt taken out. William Beach, no.6 of Bedfordshire Rural Police – he took Gover into custody and received the shirt from Mrs Armstrong. William Gover - "I did not steal the shirt. I never stole anything in all my life".
