- Scope and ContentJohn Boxford – he is a woodman on the Duke of Bedford’s estate at Flitwick. Odell had recently bought some roots lying in Flitwick Plantation. Yesterday (18 Dec) Odell and another man (William Brazier) came with a cart and horses to fetch the roots. They took the cart into the wood and loaded it. He was in a nearby field and saw a quantity of rails on the cart. He asked Odell what he was doing with them. Odell said he wanted a few rails and thought there was no harm in taking them. He ordered Odell to take them off the cart. Odell did so and said he hoped it wouldn’t go any further. There were 9 rails, 3 stakes and 2 morticed posts. They had been lying in Steppingley Warren Plantation, about ¼ mile from where the roots were. Danile Odell – he has been a soldier 25 years and never had a charge against him before. He thought the things had been lying there for years and were of no value.
