- Scope and ContentWilliam Barker of Toddington, carpenter – on Tuesday 5 August he was on the Moor in the parish of Luton at about 11am. He tied his coat and blouse up in a silk pocket handkerchief and placed the bundle under the booth. About 3pm he went to fetch his bundle. He found the coat and blouse lying on the ground and the handkerchief missing. The handkerchief produced by PC Massey is his. George Groom of Luton, bonnet blocker – on Tuesday 5 August about 2pm he was on the Luton Moor watching the cricket match. He saw Musson go to the booth, untie the bundle and bring a silk handkerchief away. Musson asked if he would have the handkerchief in his pocket and he refused. A short time later he heard Barker say someone had taken his handkerchief and told him Musson had taken it. Charles Massey of Luton, police constable – he was on Luton Moor when Barker came to him and said he had lost a handkerchief. He took Musson into custody, searched him and found the handkerchief. Musson did not appear to be drunk.
