- Scope and ContentPC George Smith: on 25 June he went to the house of Joseph Poulter, who was a tinman and brazier at Luton. He found there 3 brass knobs. He had since been to the Red Cap beer house and fitted them to the doors. Mr Holyaok went with him. He fitted one to the oven door, one to the back door and one to the cellar. He found them all to match. Henry Holyoak: agent to Mr Edward Chase and receiver of his rents. Mr Thomas Sworder had been the tenant of the Red Cap beer shop up to the previous day. The house belonged to Mr Chase. The handles to the doors and fixtures belonged to the house and therefore were the property of Mr Chase. He went with PC Smith and found the knobs to match those missed. Statement of the accused: he had nothing to say except he delivered the knobs to PC as soon as he came and asked for them as he thought he had been right in buying and delivering them knowing them stolen.
