  • Scope and Content
Gives copy of letter from J. Hunt in Philadelphia, 4 May 1769 : Thomas Farmborough was a joint purchaser with many other persons of many thousands of acres of land of William Penn. These joint purchasers were called the Free Society; but disagreeing, their whole interest was sold many years by order of this assembly here, & the money thence arising divided to the members of that society, whence tis clear it was upon this account that M. Briggins received the money (in 1732). No record that the land was ever sold, and it still stands in his name. It will probably be allotted, if applied for, in the new purchase made of the Indians, but more than 500 people have already applied for warrants to locate lands in this new purchase. Demands a share in the land if the claim is successful.
