  • Scope and Content
May thy repentence be sincere & persevering ..... I can't forbear querying whether the horror & anguish of thy mind has its source so much in remorse & regard to thy offence against God, as in thy earthly affections, the apprehension that the darling of thy heart, may I not say thy idol, may suffer. I don't forbid thy concern for her, nor a tender attachment, with grief for the injury she has received from thee …. may the love that began with guilt be refined & purified. Be not uneasy, she shall have all necessary supplies, inform me of her wants.
