- Scope and ContentJoseph Richard Scroggs: son of George Scroggs. He missed several fowls belonging to his father. He was in the habit of looking for eggs. He was shown 2 fowls by the police constable on 22 May, one of which he identified as his father’s property. He could tell by its general appearance and because it walked lame. Samuel Rush: he had bought 2 fowls from Langley and had given half a crown for the 2. After 2 or 3 days one of them died. He told Langley and Langley said he would let him have another for 9 pence. Langley brought him another on 6 May and he gave Langley 7 pence and owed him 2 pence. PC Dale fetched the fowls away. PC Charles Dale: on 22 May he went to Samuel Rush and was shown 2 hens which he brought away. He showed them to Joseph Richard Scroggs the same day. Statement of the accused: nothing to say.
