    - Copy of letter from Ministry of Labour and National Service requesting particulars of the employment of Miss Daphne Seamark, completed requesting exemption on grounds that she is studying for a professional examination. [7 Aug 1942] - Copy of letter from and reply to the Ministry of Labour and National Service regarding the number of staff and weekly hours worked. Notes that the staff spend 64 hours each per month fire-watching and are engaged in other Civil Defence Duties. Signed by County Librarian George Glazier. [4 Dec 1942] - Copy of additional information regarding details of the work carried out by Daphne Seamark (Senior Assistant, County Library). [4 Dec 1942] - List of staff members, noting age and position held, annual wage, medical grade and whether replacing a member of staff in the Armed Forces. Note that since the outbreak of war the Library workload had doubled with services to R.A.F. Aerodromes, units of H.M. Army, munitions works, military hospitals, Women’s Land Army , Civil Defence Units and evacuees. [4 Dec 1942] - Copy of completed register for employment order for Ellen Stevenson, Senior Library Assistant.[10 Dec 1942] - Letter to Mr Glazier from the Secretary of the Library Association regarding the postponement of the Library examination of Miss Seamark and Miss Fesq [21 Feb 1943] with copy of reply from Mr Glazier on the reverse [24 Feb 1943] - Letter from the Secretary of the Library Association certifying that Daphne Seamark was qualified to take the professional examinations. [22 Feb 1943] -Copy of letter from Mr Glazier to the manager of the Ministry of Labour and National Service, Bedford regarding the detrimental effect on her career of Miss Seamark missing the Intermediate Library Association exam due to call-up. [8 Apr 1943] - Copy of testimonial for Daphne Seamark from the County Librarian. [19 May 1943] - Circular letter from the Clerk of the County Council regarding Control of Employment Orders. [23 Aug 1943] - Copy of completed registration for employment order for Miss E M Northwood, Library Assistant. Notes that she is a member of the Bedfordshire Land Corps, assisting with farming for 34 hours over four weeks, and of the Bedfordshire War Agricultural Executive Committee and Phoenix Chambers.[26 Aug 1943] - Copy of completed registration for employment order for Miss M H Holmes. [6 Sep 1943] - Copy of letter from and reply to the Ministry of Labour and National Service regarding the number of staff and weekly hours worked. Note that one of the Library Assistants had been accepted for the ATS. [4 Oct 1943] - Letter from Mr Glazier, County Librarian, to the Ministry of Labour and National Service regarding Miss Holmes. Notes that she had taken over the duties of Miss Seamark (who had been transferred to the Foreign Office on 1 July 1943), including supervision of Special War Services. Attached leaflet describing Special War Services of the Bedfordshire County Library.[18 Sep 1943] - Letter from Mr Glazier, County Librarian, to the Ministry of Labour and National Service. Notes that he had been informed that Miss Holmes and Miss Northwood were to be withdrawn form their library positions. [24 Jan 1944] - Two notification forms from the Ministry of Labour and National Service for Miss Holmes and Miss Northwood noting that they currently did not have permission to enrol in the Women’s Auxiliary Forces at present. [24 Jan 1944] - Letter to Mr Glazier from Miss Daphne Seamark asking him if she could rejoin the library service upon termination of her employment with the Foreign Office.
