    William Roe: the vests produced were his. The prisoner had taken the waistcoats away, promising to pay for them. They had been worth 14s 6d. Kempson was not given them to sell. William Odell: the prisoner asked him to pawn the black waistcoat and along with another. He took them to Harman’s shop and said he was pawning it for a young man outside who had not wanted to go in. He got 3s 6d on them. He gave the money to the prisoner, who in return gave him 2d. Henry Flitton: on 26 February the prisoner asked him to go to Harman’s pawnshop and get a waistcoat out of pawn. He did so, leaving the black one in for either 2s or 2s 6d, he could not recall. Edward Harman: he was able to identify the black and blue waistcoats. On 23 February, Odell had pledged a black and a light waistcoat for 3s 6d. On 25 February Flitton had took the light one away and repledged the black one for 2s. On 26 Flitton brought in the blue waistcoat and was advanced 2s. Flitton said it belonged to a friend. Detective William Chamberlain: whilst in custody on another charge, he found the 2 pawn tickets on the prisoner. They related to the 2 waistcoats. Statement of the accused: he had been out of work and did not want his friends to know.
