    Albert Risson: of New Bedford Road in Luton. On 4 February the prisoner came and looked at the gun and said he would take it home to try. He allowed the prisoner to take the gun and gave him some cartridges. The prisoner said he would give 50 shillings for it if it suited him. He did not return. Risson made enquiries and found the same gun pawned with Alfred Gale, who had allowed 17s 6d on it. Sidney Harris: an assistant to Alfred Gale, pawnbroker. On the evening of 4 February, Kempson brought the rifle to pawn asking 30 shillings for it. Kempson claimed it was his fathers. Before he advanced money on it, Harris took it to the police and the gun maker, Langley, whose name was on it. He was satisfied and gave 17s 6d on it. William Chamberlain: he charged the prisoner with illegally pawning a rifle belonging to Mr Risson. The prisoner said “I got that to get some money to pay another man I had got into trouble with”. Statement of the accused: he had been out of work and did not want his friends to know.
