Scope and Content
Homage presentments as follows:
- that Henry Garner late of Biggleswade, harness maker, deceased, late a copyhold or customary tenant of the manor, died on 19 Dec 1857, seised of divers messuages, cottages or tenements in the town or within the parish or manor of Biggleswade.
- extract from the will of Henry Garner, dated 4 May 1854, whereby, amongst other things, he devised and bequeathed to his wife all his freehold estates, copyhold and leasehold, whether in possession, reversion, remainder or expectancy, and all his personal estate (consisting as specified therein) to hold to Ann, her heirs, executors, administrators and assigns according to their natures and qualities thereof respectively and all that he possessed at the time of his decease to Ann for her sole use and absolute benefit; and directed that in case his sister in law Elizabeth Norman of Biggleswade, spinster, shall survive his wife, that she should be entitled to take possession and hold the same for the sole and absolute benefit of Elizabeth Norman; which will was proved on 3 Nov 1858 by Ann Garner, the sole executrix named therein, in the Principal Registry of Her Majesty’s Court of Probate.
- That Ann Garner was never admitted tenant of the said hereditaments and premises so devised to her but died seised thereof or entitled thereto on 17 Apr 1868.
- extract from the will of Ann Garner, dated 30 Dec 1857, whereby she devised and bequeathed all her real and personal estate to her sister Elizabeth Norman, her heirs, executors, administrators and assigns according to the natures and qualities thereof; which will was proved on 16 Jan 1869 by Elizabeth Norman, the sole executrix named therein, in the Principal Probate Registry.
Admission of Elizabeth Norman, under the will of Henry Garner on the death of Ann Garner and also by the will of Ann Garner to:
(a) cottage or tenement, yard, outbuildings and premises with appurtenances situate in Sun St., Biggleswade, formerly in the
occupation of John Beaumont and afterwards of Henry Garner, deceased; as in Z 590/15 (a).
(b) cottage or tenement and premises with appurtenances situate in Sun St., Biggleswade, late in the occupation of Edward Fair, afterwards of [ ] Hare and since of John Leach; as in Z 590/15 (b).
Habendum: to Elizabeth Norman, her heirs and assigns for ever according to the tenor and effect of the said wills, of the Lord of the Manor, at the will of the Lord etc.
Yearly rent: 1½d.
Customary fine for estate and entry: 1d.
Fealty: respited.
