    Homage presentment that on 26 July 1865 Edward Twelvetrees of Biggleswade, builder, a customary or copyhold tenant of the manor, in consideration of £70 (being part and parcel of monies belonging to her in her own separate right and for her own sole and separate use independently of the control or engagements of her said husband) paid to him by Martha Thompson (see Z 590/29) wife of John Thompson the younger of Biggleswade, market gardener, by and with his privity and approbation testified by his signature, did out of court surrender by the rod out of his hands into the hands of the Lord of the Manor by the hands and acceptance of Thomas Handley and George Ansell, two other customary or copyhold tenants of the manor according to the custom thereof: (a) piece or parcel of ground as in Z 590/20 (a) (b) Brick built and slated cottage as in Z 590/20(b) (a note, in pencil, in the margin, records ‘4 cottages erected by Mrs Thompson in the year 1866 adjoining this one’) Together with right of way and passage for Martha Thompson as in Z 590/20 and the owners and occupiers of (a) - (b); and joint use of the well and privy etc. as in Z 590/20. ...(habendum of recital) to the use of Martha Thompson, her heirs and assigns according to the custom of the manor and to be to and for her own separate benefit and at her own free and separate disposal whether by surrender, deed, will, codicil or otherwise independent and exclusively of any control, engagements, or liabilities (present or future) of any husband and in such wise to all intents as if she were sole or unmarried or a widow and that she might be entitled unto and claim and take admittance accordingly; and such disposition by her as aforesaid and likewise any receipt other writing under her own hand only was declared to be valid., effectual and sufficient for all purposes, he the said John Thompson by his signature testifying full concurrence therein and confirmation thereof. Admission of Martha Thompson to (a) - (b) so surrendered. Habendum: (a) - (b) with appurtenances to Martha Thompson, her heirs and assigns for ever according to the tenor and effect of the Surrender, of the Lord of the manor, by copy of court roll etc. Yearly rent. 1d Fine: stated.
