    1. Note on the purchase of an estate at Wilshamstead by Richard Lowndes from Trustees of Mr. Croke in 1845 - farm of 190 acres in the tenancy of John Armstrong (rent £230 per annum) and the Tithe Closes (21a) in the occupation of Thomas James (rent £42 per annum) for £6150, subject to Land Tax and liability to one third of the expenses of the repair of the chancel of Wilshamstead church. Accounts for purchase (£8088 including new house on Armstrongs farm) and notes on the method of financing the purchase. 2. Particulars of the Wilshamstead farm (190a) and Tithe Closes (21a) taken from a map made in 1848. 3. Memoranda regarding the properties at Wilshamstead: New Tenancy agreement (with clauses regarding land drainage) of William Layton Lowndes with John Armstrong, 1862; death of John Armstrong on 22 December 1872; Joseph Simms became new tenant (rent £300) at Michaelmas 1873; Death of Reverend F.G.C. Passy, Vicar, on 14 July 1871 and payment by Lowndes of £40.12.8 to the new Vicar (Reverend J.H. Macaulay) as 1/3 share of dilapidations on the chancel and £94.7.4 as a voluntary contribution towards the restoration of the church which was re-consecrated on April 24 1873; Tenancy of Joseph Simms from 1873-1879 (rent £330) and until 1881 (reduced to £300) when he left; In 1882 Mr. Swaffield worked the farm and paid £100 rent; at Michaelmas 1882 John M McDonald became tenant of the farm with Crossmead (200a) at a rent of £200; Heads of agreement (mainly agricultural) LOWNDES FAMILY: Estates at Wilshamstead and Wootton, Bedfordshire Estate notebook and rental: between William Layton Lowndes and J.M.
