- Scope and ContentHenry Stone of Leighton, draper – he has a shop in the High Street. On 14 January there were some women’s skirts and neckerchiefs near the door of his shop. The skirts hung from a bar and were secured by a pin. The neckerchiefs were lying in heap. He believes the skirt and neckerchief produced are his property. John Olden, police sergeant stationed at Leighton Buzzard – on 25 January Smith was in custody on other charges. Smith said in conversation with other prisoners in his hearing (they were all in the same room) “the skirt I stole from Stone’s I sold to my brother Bill. He had a waistcoat and a wrapper as well”. He went to the brother’s and obtained the skirt and neck cloth now produced. Bill Smith’s wife was wearing the skirt at the time and the neck cloth was in a box upstairs. Frederick Smith – has nothing to say.
