    Joseph Spratley: an engineer of 36 Castle Street, Luton. On 24 September about 11am the prisoner called and asked for employment and stated that he had got a workshop in London where he could make tools. Being in want of a screw for a lathe, he took the prisoner into his workshop and Allison took the measurement for it. On 4 October, from information received, he examined his stock of twist drills and found 3 missing. He was later shown them by PC Currell and identified them as his property. George Treasure: of 75 Church Street, Luton. On 24 September about 12.30pm he had been at dinner when he heard someone come to the shop. He came out and met the prisoner in the yard. The prisoner produced one of Mr Spratley’s cards and stated that he had got some work for Mr Spratley when he got back to London. Allison said eh wanted to make up another shilling or two to take back to London. Allison produced 3 twist drills which he pressed Treasure to buy. He gave Allison a shilling for them. PC William Henry Currell: on 29 September he found the 3 twist drills had been sold to George Treasure by the prisoner. He showed the drills to the prosecutor who identified them as his property. They were valued at 3s 9d. He charged the prisoner who was then in custody and the prisoner made no reply Statement of the accused: reference made to previous statement made by Allison [see QSR1887/4/5/14a]
