    Removal Order for Eli Betts, Phoebe his wife and their two children Joseph aged 3 years and Elizabeth aged 1 year. Removed from Yielden to Higham Ferrers in the County of Northampton. Certificate of Chargeability by Bedford Board of Guardians stating that Eli Betts, Phoebe his wife and their two children Joseph aged 3 years and Elizabeth aged 1 year had become chargeable on 5th April 1844. Settlement Examination of Eli Betts, at present residing in the workhouse of the Bedford Union: I am about 23 years of age and have done no act to my knowledge to gain a settlement in my own right. I was married to my wife Phoebe formerly Phoebe Barnes, spinster, ion 6th August 1840 in the parish church of the parish of Odell in this County by whom I have two children namely Joseph aged 3 years and Elizabeth aged one year. I and m y said wife and our two children are now actually chargeable to the parish of Yielden and are the persons mentione din the Certificate of Chargeability now produced. The Examination of James Betts of the parish of Knotting in the said County, Labourer: The above named Eli Betts is my son by my wife Melicent formerly Melicent Herbert, spinster, to whom I was lawfully married in the parish church of Knotting in this County 12th October 1817. My said son has done no act to gain a settlement in his own right. I am a settled inhabitant of the parish of Higham Ferrers in the County of Northampton. A little before Old Michaelmas Day in the year 1802 being then an unmarried person not having a child or children I was hired into the parish of Higham Ferrers in the County of Northampton by Edmund Blott of the same parish, farmer, as horsekeeper for one year to commence from Old Michaelmas day in the same year at the wages of 6 guineas and my board and lodging. I entered Mr Blotts service as agreed upon the day after Old Michaelmas Day 1802 and from that time I continued and abided in the same service for the space of one whole year until the Michaelmas Day 1803 and I resided and slept in my same Masters House in the said parish of Higham Ferrers for the whole period of my said service. At Wellinmgbrough Statute about a fortnight before Old Michaelmas Day 1803 I was again hired into the said parish of Higham Ferrers by Mr William Spencer of Higham Ferrers, farmer as horsekeeper for one year to commence from Old Michaelmas Day 1803 at the wages of nine guineas and my board and lodging. I entered Mr Spencers service as agreed upon Old Michaelmas Day 1803 and from that time I continued and abided in the same service for the space of one whole year until Old Michaelmas 1804 and I resided and slept in my said Masters house in the said parish of Higham Ferrers for the whole period of my said service. I have done no act to gain any other service. memorandum that copies of the above were sent to the Overseers of Higham Ferrers 24th April 1844.
