Statement of Samuel Wing producing the above documents. Examination of Sarah Downes at present residing in the parish of St Paul, Bedford: I am about 75 years of age and am the widow of James Downes who died at Erdington in the County of Warwick upwards of 20 years ago. In or about the month of November 1832 being an unmarried person without child or children I was hired into the parish of Sutton Coldfield in the County of Warwick by Mrs C Crowther of that parish, widow, to serve her as housekeeper for one year at the wages of £12 and my board and lodging, to commence from the day I went into her service. Accordingly a few days afterwards namely at the latter end of the month of November or the commencement of December 1832 I went into Mrs Crowthers service as agreed upon and I continued and abided in the same service and I resided and inhabited in the said parish of Sutton Coldfield for the space of one whole year thence ensuing. After the first years service being still an unmarried person without child or children Mrs Crowther hired me as her housekeeper for the next year and I continued and abided in Mrs Crowthers service for another year also and resided and inhabited in the said pariosh of Sutton Coldfield during the whole period of my said second years service, I am now inhabiting in the parish of St Paul in this Borough and receive relief from Mr James Hickton, one of the Relieving Officers of the Bedford Union to the amount of two shillings and one loaf of bread per week. I am the person mentioned in the Certificate marked 'A' now produced by Mr Samuel Wing. Memorandum stating copies of the above sent to the Overseers of Sutton Coldfield 2nd July 1845.
