    Roll 49b, Cardington View of Frankpledge With Court of Katherine Duchess of Norfolk held there on the Ninth day of the month of October in the First Year of the Reign of King Edward the Fourth after the Conquest of England (9th October 1461) Enquiry declared to the constable and the taster of ale John Bastone Constable, Thomas Redyngs Taster of ale, Simon Smyth, William Bawdewyn , John Brytman, William Warner, Thomas Foxe, John Coupere, William Spencerr’, John Horne, Thomas Blythe, Henry Baker, sworn Heads of Tithings appearing there They present that Thomas Vynter ijd [2d] , the Prior of Newnham vjd [6d] for one messuage and xv [15] acres of land with appurtenances there held by Thomas Blythe, John Neweman ijd [2d] , Reginald Boteler ijd [2d] for land and a tenement lately belonging to George Gascoyne Esquire called Heyres, John Boole ijd [2d] , Simon Carton ijd [2d] , Thomas Baston ijd [2d] who owed suit on this day and have not come. Therefore they are amerced, et cetera. And that William Blounham ijd [2d] had withdrawn and removed himself to the loss of the lord King by the pledge of Simon Carton ijd [2d] against the Assize. Therefore he is at mercy, et cetera. And that John Neweman xijd [12d], Thomas Boynen xijd [12d] and Thomas Ostler xijd [12d] took and carried away vj [6] bows , vij [7] roof timbers contained from allowances and iiij [4] cartloads of timber worth iiijs [4s] from one large elm lately growing in the common by the road opposite the Messuage lately belonging to Robert Waterman, now held by John Horn within this demesne, without permission. Therefore they are amerced. And furthermore, there was a brief against them. And that Thomas Osler ijd [2d] harmed Thomas Baston with one pykeforke worth ijd [2d] against the peace and unlawfully, and he broke one door belonging to Thomas Baston against the peace. Therefore he is amerced. And that John ijd [2d] servant of Henry Baker, harmed Robert Waller with j [1] spade worth ijd [2d] against the peace, therefore he is amerced. And that the same John ijd [2d] unlawfully drew blood from the aforesaid Robert, therefore [annotated, the aforesaid Henry Baker] is amerced, et cetera. And that the same Robert ijd [2d] harmed the aforesaid John against the peace, therefore he is amerced, et cetera. Put in a tithing Thomas Baylemond ) William Heyne ) were put into the tithing of the lord King and sworn in Robert servant of John Cardone } John the miller ) Proceedings of the Little Court The sworn homage, ruined tenements, amercement ijd [2d] Penalty The homage sworn there presents that Thomas Baston ijd [2d] had a ruined Messuage needing repair. Therefore he is amerced et cetera. And furthermore he was ordered to well and competently repair the said Messuage before the next Court being held, under a penalty of iijs iiijd [3s 4d]. Encroachment of land, amercement ijd [3d] Penalty Also they present that Thomas Vynter ijd [2d] has encroached on the lady’s ground held by William Bawdewyn, between the Messuage held by Henry Baker and the aforesaid Thomas Vynter, they do not know by what warrant. Therefore he is amerced etc. And furthermore they were ordered by all the homage to see to the aforesaid Land before the next presentment, under a penalty of vjs viijd [6s 8d] for each of them Attachment of the bailiwick, The bailiff attached nothing on this day, because all was well, et cetera.
