    Roll 44b Wylyton Hallmoot held there on the Thursday next before the feast of the Finding of the Holy Cross in the year written below [29th April 1456] Essoins none Sworn men John Redy John Yarwey the younger John Salt Walter Yarwey John Tylere Randolph Bawdewyn John Tyler’ John Norman John Yarwey the elder Richard Wyneld John Stones John Waryn They present that John Taylour has a malt-kiln not sufficiently covered with straw. Therefore he is ordered to put it right before the next Court under a penalty of xxd [20d]. And that the said John has one Insethouse needing thatch. Therefore he is ordered to put it right before the next under the aforesaid penalty. And that Randolph Bawdewyn has one malt-kiln and a hall needing thatch. Therefore he is ordered to put them right before the next under the aforesaid penalty. And that William Sterlyng has one barn needing thatch. Therefore he is ordered to improve it before the next under the aforesaid penalty. And that Lady Elizabeth Marion, John Morborn and John Clerk have ditches not draining, causing nuisance against her tenement next to the king’s Road. Therefore they are ordered to put them right before the next, under a penalty of xld [40d]. And that John Gostwyk has a ditch below his tenement which is not draining, causing nuisance. Therefore he is ordered to put it right before the next. And that John Taylour has one barn not sufficiently roofed. Therefore he is ordered to put it right before the next under a penalty of xxd [20d]. And that Richard Wyneld has a jarete needing repairs. Therefore he is ordered to improve it before the next, under the aforesaid penalty. And that a certain lane called Suffesland is stopped up, causing nuisance, to the lord’s tenants. Therefore he is ordered by the bailiff to open the aforesaid lane or make an upright prop there for the wayfarers to walk there, and specially for the lord’s tenants. Taking land fealty William Fesaunt came to this Court and took from the lord one Messuage with appurtenances, lately in the holding of Robert Cook and the Redland with x [10] acres of land and adjacent meadow. To be held by himself, according to the custom of the manor, for the term of his life, rendering therefrom xiijs iiijd [13s 4d] a year to the lord, paid at the usual terms there. And the aforesaid William will well and competently repair and sustain the aforesaid messuage at his own cost and expense. Also the same took from the lord x [10] acres of land and meadow lately in the holding of William Saxton [sic?] to be held by himself at the aforesaid terms rendering therefrom vs [5s] a year to the lord. And the aforesaid William is answerable for all the aforesaid land and holding and will submit to an examination and valuation at the mid-term. And he owed suit [of court] and made fealty to the lord. Taking fealty John Waryner came to this Court and took one Messuage, lately belonging to Shakstons, from the lord. To be held by himself for the term of his life rendering annually iijs [3s] therefrom to the lord, paid at the usual terms there and he should make all repairs with the timber and withies which the lord provides. And he owes suit [of Court] twice a year and he made fealty to the lord. Nicholas Waryner came to this Court and took one Messuage and x [10] acres of land lately in the holding of Robert Partryche. To be held by himself and his wife and their assigns for the term of his life and of whichever of them ever lives the longest. Rendering xs [10s] therefrom a year paid at the usual terms there. And the aforesaid Nicholas will well and competently repair and sustain the said Messuage at his own cost and expense, but the lord will provide large timber, laths and withies for the repairs he makes. And he owes suit and makes fealty to the lord. Sales of underwood The total acres of underwood felled in Shyrehach this year, vij [7] acres, iij [3] roods, xxv [25] perches, [annotated, viij [8] acres v [5] roods] value for each acre viijs [8s] . Therefrom the tithe iij [3] roods vj [6] perches and a half. And therefrom handed out for repairs to the mill and for the tenement of Robert Partrych j [1] acre. And one rood allowed to John Taylour. Also to Walter Yarwey half a rood, to William Sterlyng half a rood, to John Redy x [10] perches, to Robert Veyse x [10] perches, to John Clerk half a rood. And in sales of v [5] acres, lxxviij [78] perches and a half for xliiijs.[44s] Sum total in money xliiijs [44s] For the expenses of the stewards and tenants at this Court vjs viijd [6s 8d] And for one tenement lately in the holding of William Shakston [annotated, at xs [10s] a year] now in the lord’s hands. The bailiff is answerable for xxd [20d] raised this year from the meadow [annotated, in the same] and for ijs [2s] for iij [3] acres of land so demised to William Taylour. And for iijs [3s] for one croft demised [to him]. And for ijd [2d] for j [1] rood demised to John Gostwyk. And for viijd [8d] for one acre thus demised to William Shakston. Sum in money vijs vjd [7s 6d] Also he is answerable for xd [10d] received from old tiles and laths sold to the miller Sum of one Lete and one Court ixs ixd [9s 9d] Therefrom in expenses of the Steward xiijs xjd [13s 11d]
