Also they presented that the Prior of [illegible, probably indicates that he did not pay] Newnham, Geoffrey ijd [2d] Aubrey, Adam ijd [2d] Abell, Roger iijd [3d] D [illegible] made default Also they present that John Abraham ['came after' inserted] stays outside a tithing and that John Miton retains him, and is at mercy. Also it is presented that John came after Oseberne stays outside a tithing and that John Warner retains him, and is at mercy. The aforesaid John Abraham and John Oseberne were admitted to tithings and sworn in. Also the sworn men present that one swarm of bees, worth ijd [2d] came as strays into the demesne and themselves were impounded with Thomas Herynge who therefore is answerable. Penalties Also it was presented that Thomas Taillour, Simon Tele, Nicholas Schakeston’ and John Cartere, have ruined tenements. And they were ordered to put the aforesaid tenements right before the Feast of Pentecost [May 18th] under a penalty for each of them of xld [40d]. Heriot xijd [12d] Robert Chamberleyn came to this Court and surrendered into the hand of the lord one mesuage and half of one virgate, and a heriot of one cow valued at xijs [12s] fell due to the lord. And the said messuage remained in the hand of the lord xld [40d] premium vjd [6d] Thomas Carter came to this Court and surrendered half a virgate of land into the hand of the lord and a heriot of xld [40d] fell due to the lord. And on this John Carter the younger came and took the aforesaid land from the lord, to be held by himself at the will of the lord, making suit [of court] according to the custom of the manor. And he gave vjd [6d] to the lord as premium and made fealty and he provided pledges for the land and for repairing and sustaining the Messuage, that is to say Thomas Ryder and Henry Yarwey. Premium xijd [12d] To this Court came Walter Yarewey and took from the lord one Messuage and half a virgate of land to be held by himself at the lord’s will and making suit [of court] and according to the custom of the manor.
