    to be buried without pomp at Wavendon Churchyard as near to that part of the Chancel where his parents were buried "and to leave a large grave made and walled either with stone or brick sufficient to contain another coffin should Mrs Vane alias Hone choose to be buried there, there may be room for her coffin likewise and "this grave I desire may be surrounded by strong plain iron rails to keep the cattle from trampling"but no stone or inscription on his grave "only the earth raised as is commonly done for the poor people" desires to be carried by tenants, servants or labourers; not to employ "any coach, hearse or paltry show" to right heir at law (to be found by advertisements in public papers) manor of Whaddon and Nash AND capital messuage known as Whaddon Hale and lands etc in above parishes AND Whaddon Chase, with all deer, soil, ground together with timber and wood growing there coppices of wood part of same Chase AND Whaddon Park and all farms, messuages, lands etc in parishes of Whaddon, and Nash, Great Harewood, Little Harewood, Single, Borough, Totternhoe alias Catnal, Shenley, Mursely and Salden and Bletchley, Bucks BUT subject to following charges Reverend Sawell (son of Robert Sawell, Schoolmaster at Aspley Guise)£1000 to Sir Wm Stonhouse, Bart of Oxon £1000 to Joseph Smyth Esq of Shotebrooke Lodge in Whittlebury Forest, Northants £1000 to cousin Temperance Bedford daughter of late Arthur Bedford, Minister of Sharnbrook £1000 to Elizabeth Page of Wavendon and Little Charlott Forster of Wavendon £500 each to Thomas James Page of Wavendon £500 to Mr Franklin who married Miss Elizabeth Wells £1000 to Miss Nelly Wells and Mrs Franklin (late Katherine Wells) £100 each to Children of Very faithful old servant Robert Taylor of Whaddon (Robert, Edmund, George, Charles and John Taylor, Mary King, Elizabeth Pollard, Ann Coare, widow of Rosamond Coare of Salden) annuity of £10 pa to poor of Wavendon and Whaddon, Bucks £300 to Charles Miller Esq formerly lived at Fretwell, Oxon "and I believe now somewhere in Gloucestershire" £500 to Mr Foulke, shepherd, whose general residence is with Sir Thomas Sarnwell Bart £500 to Mrs Elizabeth Howell (nee Forster) now of Woburn 20 pm to John Ranby Sergeant Surgeon to the King and Surgeon of Chelsea Hopsital £500 to Mrs Ann Kent, sis of Temperance Bedford £1000 to Thomas Forster, my huntsman £100 (and £20 pa for life) to Simon Taylor of Irtleborough (sic) Northants £500 to John Hall, Attorney at Newport Pagnell £100 In event of no right heir being found appoint William Lowndes, Esq of Winslow, Major in Militia, (on condition changes name to Selby) subject to charges above. To Reverend John Lord, Minister of Drayton, Bucks and Richard Filkes the elder Apothecary at Woburn as Trustees for sale (by Public Auction) Messuages etc in St Clements Churchyard in parish of St Clement Danes, London Messuages and Farms in Isle of Ely, Cambs Manor of Hertingfordbury, Herts etc Money raised to three charities:- 1/3rd Foundling Hospital 1/3rd Magdalen House 1/3rd Asylum in Lambeth Parish to Cousin Temperance Bedford of Husborne Crawley (daughter of late Arthur Bedford, Minister of Sharnbrook) £1000 + interest due (loaned to Sir Thomas Alston of Odell, Bart) and 2 pictures of testator's mother that hangs in his study AND picture of grandmother AND iron chest in hands of Hoare's Bankers in Fleet Street containing testator's mother's jewels AND mahogany chest of drawers in dressing room at Wandon [Wavendon] AND mother's picture and other family pictures AND (after death of my dearly beloved Mrs Hone) commonly called Vane, dwelling house at Wavendon AND messuages, farms etc in Wavendon alias Wandon, Aspley Guise, Husborne Crawley, Heath and Reach in counties of Beds and Bucks) to Temperance Bedford : advowson of rectory of Wavendon and tithes of all sorts to Sir Wm Stonhouse, Bart of Oxon : picture of Battle of the Boyne, by Wyke AND picture of grey mare and picture of hounds, fellow to it to Francis Page of Andle Aston, Oxon picture of the 'School of Athens' which I think will suit his large room to Reverend Mr Hervey of Holcot gun with a 'fuslora' barrel to Duke of Grafton bayhorse testator's huntsman rides "that I brought off farmer Kiteley" to Sir Wm Stonhouse grey mare and stirrup gelding to Alexander Small esq of Clifton (Reynes), Bucks: hounds and dogs of all sorts. to dearly beloved Mrs Elizabeth Hone, commonly called Mrs Vane dwelling house at Wavendon alias Wandon and property in Wavendon, Aspley Guise, Husborne Crawley, Heath and Reach and use of all furniture, plate etc for use of her and her friends for her life except bonds etc in bureau given to Miss Bedford. AND stocks including South Sea Stock, South Sea Annuities, India Bonds in Mr Hoare's hands AND all money at Bankers Executors:- Mrs Hone, Reverend Mr John Lord and Richard Filkes, the elder to Reverend Mr John Lord, Minister of Drayton and Richard Filks, the Elder of Woburn Apothecary £1000 each for their trouble as executors and advising Mr Hone made 19 August 1768 Counsel advised surviving executors after death of Mrs Hone, to sell all stock and divide it into four equal shares 1) Cousin Temperance Bedford one share with the rest going to 3 charities above Proved PCC (ref 459 Taverner 34) 22 December 1772
