Caleb Soundy of Biggleswade, draper – the pair of trousers produced are his property, though there is no positive identifying mark. He had an exactly similar pair hung on the door post just inside the open frame of the doorway of his shop. He saw them there at about 9pm on October 2nd. About 10pm he missed them. He had been in his shop for the whole of that hour and had not sold them. He gave information to the police and the trousers were brought to him a week after. George Burnage of Biggleswade, stable boy – he is stable boy to the road surveyor. As he was crossing the Market Hill at about 9.30pm with Charles Cooper he saw Albone go to Mr Soundy’s shop door and take hold of something, pull it down, and as he walked away, put it under his jacket. When Albone was opposite Mr Conders he saw him put it further up under his coat jacket. Charles Cooper of Biggleswade, journeyman harness maker – he works in Taylor’s harness maker’s shop. On Saturday at about 9.30pm he crossed the Market Hill with George Burnage. He saw Albone go to Mr Soundy’s shop door, take something, pull it down and tuck it under his jacket. He walked away past Mr Conders house. Samuel Bransom of Biggleswade, police sergeant – from information received on 9 October he went to Charles Albone’s house. Albone was not at home. Albone’s wife brought him the pair of trousers now produced. On the same day he apprehended Albone and charged him. Albone denied stealing the trousers and said he found them in the New Inn yard. Charles Albone – he found them smothered with dirt. He took them home and brushed them and tied them up in an old white handkerchief.
