- Scope and ContentJohn Lansom of Great Barford, labourer – he was in the road from Great Barford to St Neots on 12 July from 12 to 1pm. It had been wet. He hung his coat on some rails on the side of the road. He met Catlin on the road. He saw Catlin go to the rails away from the coat. He saw Catlin take the coat off the rails. Catlin went along with it under his arm. He said “lay that coat down”. Catlin began to run and threw the coat onto the road. He picked it up. William Catlin – he was on the road, saw the coat and said to some bricklayers “that looks like Youngs coat”. He stood against the rails and hollowed “Hi” several times. No one answered. He took the coat off and walked along gently with it. He ran to catch the other bricklayers. When he caught them he looked back and saw a man running towards him. The bricklayers said “that coat belongs to that man”. He put the coat and left it.
