    Alfred Faulkner of Husborne Crawley, shoemaker – Henry Tuck is an apprentice of his. On 7 December about 7am Tuck left his service without leave. When Tuck was gone he missed an overcoat, a hat, a scarf and a pair of shoes. He later found his silver cased watch was gone. It lay in the window downstairs and was out of repair. The coat, shoes, scarf and hat produced he can swear to as his. He took out a warrant against Tuck on 9 December. Tuck had absconded before from his service – he went away with a quartern loaf and a quartern of lour and came home at night without them. Tuck also took a carpet bag which he saw no more of. William Whinnett, police constable stationed at Woburn – on 22 December he apprehended Tuck at Huntingdon on a warrant. He read Tuck the charge. Tuck said “I threw the watch into a field just above the new school at Bedford”. He found the articles of clothing in Tuck’s possession. Tuck said he would show him where he threw the watch. Tuck pointed out a spot which he searched but he could not find it. Henry Tuck – he does not wish to say anything.
