- Scope and ContentThomas Goodman of Woburn, journeyman baker - he is employed by Ann Hall, a baker at Woburn. On 29 March he was at Eversholt about 9pm with his baker’s cart. He called at the Six Bells, went into the house and left his cart. He had not been in more than a minute when he saw someone at the back of the cart. He went out. The person was gone. The person was dressed as Brown is now. He left the 2 bags produced in his cart. They contain 7 quarterns of flour value 3s 6d. He saw Brown running. He later saw PC Lunniss who asked if he had lost anything. He said he was not sure, then later missed the two bags of flour. He later saw Lunniss with the 2 bags produced and knew them to be his. James Lunniss, police constable stationed at Eversholt - Jesse Brown is a labourer at Eversholt. On 29th March he saw Brown run from the direction of Ann Hall’s baker’s cart at Eversholt about a minute after it stopped opposite the Six Bells. He was with Jesse Mersy. They both followed Brown. Mersy overtook and stopped him. He searched Brown, who had nothing on him. Thomas Goodman came up and he asked if he had lost anything. Goodman said not that he was aware of. He went in the direction Brown came from and found the 2 bags in a ditch. Goodman said they belonged to his mistress. Jesse Mersy of Eversholt, coachman - he is coachman at Mr Smarts of Eversholt. He was with PC Lunniss near the Six Bells and heard a cart stop there. He saw Brown run from the cart. He and Lunniss ran after Brown. He saw Brown’s hand pass towards the ditch. He was about 20 yards from Brown. It was a light night. He went to the spot and found 2 bags of flour. Jesse Brown - he never went near the cart. He kept in the middle of the road all the way.
