- Scope and ContentExamination of Samuel Wing, Clerk to the Guardians of Bedford Union: I produce a certificate bearing date 10th September instant signed by Charles Longuet Higgins Chairman of the Board of Guardians at a meeting held of the said day of September wherein it is certified that the said pauper Ellen Parrott, singlewoman became on the 20th August last and has thence until the day of the date of the certificate has continued chargeable to that parish. Examination of Ellen Parrott upon her oath saith I am about 18 years of age. i have done no act to my knowledge to gain a settlement in my own right and am now actually chargeable to the parish of Stevington. Examination of Sarah Parrott: On 10th May 1824 my husbands sister Susannah Parrott singlewoman since deceased was in my presence delivered of the above named Ellen Parrott at the house of my husband John Parrott in the parish of Clapham. Examination of James Cowdall: Iam the reputed father of Ellen Parrott now present. I produce an order of filiation bearing date 14th July 1824 under the hands and seals of Stephen Thornton and Robert Moore, Doctor in Divinity, Justices of the Peace for the County of Bedford whereby I was adjudged to be the reputed father of a female bastard child of Susannah Parrott, singlewoman at the house of John Parrott in the parish of Clapham on 10th July 1824. I saw the said order signed by the Justices and the same was delievered to me in their presence by Mr Grant, then one of the Overseers of Clapham. I did not appeal from the said order and it has been in my custody ever since. The said Ellen Parrott is the child referred to in te order. In obedience to the order I paid one shilling and sixpence a week towards the support of the said Ellen Parrott to the overseers of the parish of Clapham for about 9 years from the date of the order.
