- Scope and ContentExamination of Amos Eaton: I am about 26 years of age and am now actually chargeable to the parish of St Mary in this Borough. I have done no act to my knowledge to gain a settlement in my own right. I was married on Whit Monday 1839 in the parish church of St Paul, Bedford to Rebecca Savill, spinster, my present wife. Examination of William Eaton: I am the father of Amos Eaton. He is my son by my present wife Leah (formerly Leah Parker, spinster) to whom I was married at the parish church of Stevington on 30th November 1809. I have done no act to my knowledge to gain a settlement in my own right., but I have been informed and believe that the place of my legal settlement is in the parish of Marston Moretaine and I derived such settlement by birth and parentage. My settlement in that parish has been frequently acknowledged by the parish officers of Marston Moretaine. On the 28th May 1824 being then residing in the parish of Stevington unable to support my family I went with my wife and children to Marston Moretaine and applied to the parish officers there for relief. Mr John Webb the assistant overseer of that parish relieved us with ten shillings and agreed to allow us five shillings per week. i then returned to Stevington and once a month went over to Marston Moretaine to receive and did receive from the Overseer of Marston Moretaine the allowance so agreed upon, the relief was continued to me whilst residing at Stevington for some months and was paid by Mr Webb as assistant overseer of Marston Moretaine.
