    Mortgage by demise for 500 years Parties: (i) Francis Beckett of Bedford, gentleman and alderman; (ii) Marmaduke James of Ason [sic – Aston, Hertfordshire], clerk Operative Part: - (i) borrowed £200 from (ii) secured on (a)-(c) at 6% interest Property: (a) six acres of arable in Newnham Field in Bedford, Saint Paul and Bedford, Saint Cuthbert in the occupation of William Laundye abutting: N on a windmill in the same field; S on Great Ouse; Millers Leys E; Burgess Land W and all tithes on it (b) the Burgess Tithe on corn and grain on 36 acres of arable called the Burgess Land; (c) all tithes of corn, grain and hay on ten acres of arable in Newnham Fields, Goldington and Bedford in the occupation of William Laundey, John Cleaton and several others, the land abutting: N and S on the Burgess Land Witnesses: - William Manley; - Thomas Jarves; - S. Hannell Endorsement: “It is agreed before the sealing and delivery of these presents that the within named Marmaduke James shall permit Mr. John Savage and his tenants of the windmill within mentioned to have the passage mentioned in Mr. Beckett’s covenant in the deed of purchase” [R6/5/9/2]
