- Scope and ContentRelease [actually a mortgage – see R6/5/9/10] Parties: (i) Francis Beckett of Bedford, gentleman and alderman; (ii) John Eston of Bedford, draper Operative Part: - (i) conveyed (a)-(c) to (ii) for £200 Property: (a) six acres of arable in Newnham Field in Bedford, Saint Paul and Bedford, Saint Cuthbert in the occupation of William Laundye abutting: N on a windmill in the same field; S on Great Ouse; Millers Leys E; Burgess Land W and all tithes on it (b) the Burgess Tithe on corn and grain on 36 acres of arable called the Burgess Land; (c) all tithes of corn, grain and hay on ten acres of arable in Newnham Fields, Goldington and Bedford in the occupation of William Laundey, John Cleaton and several others, the land abutting: N and S on the Burgess Land Covenant by (i) to levy a fine sur conizance de droit come ceo etc. Witnesses: - Thomas Christie; - S. Hannell; - Thomas Jarves Endorsed: “useless writing about my estate at Bedford I thinke let them be searched into”. Note: nowhere does this deed suggest the Lease and Release is by way of mortgage
