  • Scope and Content
Examination of Sarah Jackson: I am now living in the parish of Sandy and am chargeable to it. I am 61 years old and my late husband's name was William. I have always understood that he belonged to the parish of Cople. Some years ago I believe ten or a dozen, I went to one of the Overseers of the parish of Cople and asked him for some relief for my husband who was at that time ill and was living in the parish of Sandy and he gave me 5 shillings and about 23 years ago I was ill myself and the Overseers of Cople came to see me in Sandy where we were living and gave me relief for three months altogether. About 40 years ago I and my husband were removed by an order of Magistrate from Sandy to Cople and received by the Overseers of Cople. Information of William Barker: My father was Clerk to the Magistrates for the Division of Biggleswade and was Constable of Sandy. I remember seeing amonst his papers an order under the hands and seals of Sir Philip Monoux and Mr Pym who were Justices of the Peace for Bedfordshire for removing William Jackson and his wife from Sandy to Cople but I have lately searched everywhere for the order and cannot find it. I believe it is lost but I have found and now produce the examination of William Jackson on which it was founded. Information of Thomas Nelson: I am 66 years old. I remember William Jackson. When he was 20 years old living in Cople in the service of Mr John Humbley my father in law. He was horsekeeper and used to lodge in the house. He lived there above twelvemonths.
