    Extract from the will of Elizabeth Crompton of Christ Church [Newgate Street, City of London], widow in PCC: - her second son Charles Crompton borrowed £200 and the testatrix and he became bound to John Eston of Bedford, esquire, for repayment. Soon after the money was called in and the testatrix borrowed £200 from Mary Horne of London, widow for which she, Charles Crompton and John Crompton were bound; - the testatrix directed her son John Crompton to redeem the loan from Mary Horne and in satisfaction devised to John and to her daughter Barbara Gilbert her five pieces of land in Bedford, Saint Mary, devised to her by her late son Lovett Crompton, in trust; - two of the five pieces of land were devised to John in trust that he redeemed the loan from Mary Horne, if he defaulted in this the two parts were to be devised to her daughters Ann Sale and Elizabeth Bodington subject to the redemption of the loan; - three of the five pieces were devised to John during the life of Barbara Gilbert in trust for her with remainder to the use of her and of her heirs begotten on her by her late husband Benjamin Gilbert, remainder to her heirs provided she did not prevent the land descending to her daughters Elizabeth and Rebecca; - if Barbara Gilbert or her heirs wished to sell any of the three pieces of land John Crompton was to have first refusal; - probate on 26 May 1694
