    Charles Collard of St Paul, Bedford – he lives at the Saint Pauls Brewery with Mr Young. He was at Bedford Races on 4th October and lost a watch. Directly he missed it he saw Williams in charge of the police. His watch was brought to him. He heard Williams say he did not take it. Harold Cook of Bedford, police constable – about 4.30 he was on duty opposite the stand at the Bedford Races in plain clothes. He saw Williams between some carriages. He saw Williams walk up to Collard and make a snatch at his watch. He got hold of Williams. He thought Williams tried to fling the watch to another man. It dropped into the hand of another person who gave it to Collard who handed it to him.
