- Scope and ContentExamination of Elizabeth Bandy: I am 28 years of age and was born in Ravensden. At Michaelmas 1830 I let myself as a hired servant to Patrick Favell of Wilden, farmer, to serve him for a year at the wages of 55 shillings. I entered his service the day after Michaelmas Day as agreed and continued in the same service and resided in my Masters house for about 51 weeks when my Master told me to leaveand take away my clothes as he did not wish me to gain a settlement at Wilden. He paid me my full wages and I left and took some of my clothes with me but I left my bible and am not sure if I did not leave something else. My Master said nothing to me about leaving a week before the end of the year when he hired me and not until a few days before I left. My Mistress and Master both asked me when I left whether I would stop with her another year which I agreed to do. i was to stop away a few days and then go back again. About ten days afterwards I returned to Wilden and was hired for another year by Mr Favell at advanced wages and continued in his service until the Michaelmas following. I have three illegitimate children - Peter aged 5 years born in St Paul, Bedford, Mary Ann aged 3 years born in the same parish, and a male infant unbaptised born 27 March last in the parish of St Cuthbert, Bedford. I have done no act since to gain a settlement other than in the said parish of Wilden and am now actually chargeable to the parish of St Cuthbert. Letter from William Rogers, Solicitor, Attorney to the Overseers and Churchwardens of Wilden, addressed to the Churchwardens and Overseers of St Cuthbert stating that the Churchwardens and overseers of Wilden intended to appeal at the next Quarter Sessions against the Removal Order.
