  • Scope and Content
Examination of Mary Ashton: I was born in the parish of Rushden in the County of Northampton and am 70 years of age. I was married in or about the year 1792 in the parish church of Rushden to Philip Ashton since deceased who was born in that parish about 1769. I have been informed and believe that my said husband when about 13 years of age was bound apprentice by Indenture to Robinson of Stanwick, County of Northampton, tailor, for the term of seven years and he served Mr Robinson under his Indentures and resided in the the parish of Stanwick during the whole of the said term. I knew my husband from his infancy. I have often seen his apprenticeship Indentures in the possession of my husband be they were lost before he died. I made every possible search for them after they were first missed but could never find them, I am sure my husband had them. My husband did not in his life time and I have not since his decease sone any act to gain a settlement otherwise than as I have above stated and I am now actually chargeable to the parish of St paul, Bedford. Order suspended as Mary Ashton unable to travel due to sickness and infirmity. Reported that she has died 30 August 1841.
