  • Scope and Content
Examination of John Lett, a prisoner in the House of Correction in the County of Bedford. I was born in about the year 1803 in the parish of Riseley in which my father is a settled inhabitant. About 11 years ago I was married in the parish church of Riseley to Ann Bridges my present wife and buy her I have six children viz Alfred aged 8 years, George aged 7 years, Francis aged 6 years, Frederick aged 4 years, Ann aged 2 years and an unbaptised infant aged 3 months. My said wife and children are now actually chargeable to the parish of St Paul. About 6 years ago I went to reside in the parish of Riseley where I was possessed of an Estate consisting of a cottage and garden to which I became entitled on the death of my mother near twenty years ago under the will of my grandfather Joseph Farrer. I resided in that parish about two years the first year I lived in a house which I hired of John Gell but during the second year I lived in the cottage before mentioned. I sold my cottage and garden to Mr Whitwell of Sharnbrook for fifty pounds and then came to reside in Canning Street, St Paul, Bedford.
